Cat-Case Second Opinion

Cats' LadyVet – Doctorița Pisicilor – Centre of Excellence in Feline Medicine offers a service dedicated to second-opinion requests. Cat-Case Second Opinion covers cases referred to us specifically for an expert assessment by another veterinarian, as well as those in which the cats' owners or human parents personally ask for a second opinion. One of the reasons our expertise is most often requested is precisely to provide another opinion. As professional vets and, above all, as human parents of cats ourselves, we admire your wish to consider every viable option for your cat's comfort and well-being. In many cases, clients who came to us for a second opinion later chose to stay with us, preferring our holistic, integrative and stress-free approach to their cats' health care.

Just as no two cats are alike, every veterinarian has different standards, perceptions and knowledge on which they assess and decide on a cat's clinical condition and, consequently, make treatment recommendations.

Dr Rocsana Timotin is a veterinarian specialising in feline medicine, with advanced studies and specialist courses completed internationally through the societies – international (ISFM) and American (AAFP) – devoted exclusively to the medicine and welfare of cats, of which she remains an active member. Since autumn 2021 she has been enrolled in, and is taking, the advanced feline medicine courses of Improve International – International School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies (ISVPS), giving her access to the latest clinical and surgical knowledge and procedures for the feline patient.

When should you ask for a second opinion?

If at some point you are not sure about, or comfortable with, a diagnosis or a possible treatment, or your cat receives a harsh verdict that leaves you facing a radical or final decision, it is a good idea to seek a second or another opinion. By consulting another vet – preferably a specialist – you show your commitment and devotion to your cat's welfare and your wish and willingness to explore every way of giving her the most effective treatment.

Remember! There is not always one exact, precise “best” approach. You may find that there is more than one way to treat your cat's condition. By getting opinions from several specialist vets, you will arm yourself with the information you need to make a decision you are at peace with.

How do you access the Cat-Case Second Opinion service?

Feline patients' cases for a “second opinion” assessment can be brought to our specialist either by the cat's own veterinarian or by the cat's parent directly. In either case, to request the service and send the complete history, clinical and diagnostic data (test reports) of the patient to be assessed, write to us via our contact page, and we will reply with instructions for sending your documents, so that we can review every detail.

This service is available both in person (bringing the patient to the centre) and remotely (online), in writing or by video call, if the specialist considers this approach to the case possible and effective.

If the case is referred by another veterinarian, we will communicate with them about the examination, test results, diagnosis and the management and treatment plan for your cat. We will also send all the patient's clinical data and records by e-mail to your veterinarian's clinic, so that you can consult them at any time and continue the protocol we have recommended.

If the case is submitted at the direct request of the cat's owner/parent, we will discuss the examination, test results, diagnosis and the management and treatment plan for your cat in person during the visit and in writing by e-mail, so that you can consult all the patient's clinical data and records at any time and continue the protocol we have recommended.

Throughout the monitoring and treatment period, the cat's veterinarian or parent may request further advice and a new assessment of the case by writing to us via our contact page.
